Can happen if you've managed to compile Prima without ungif support.
Try to load a gif file ( like,

   perl -MPrima -e "Prima::Image->load(shift) or die $@" /tmp/my.gif

) and see if the error is along the "no
appropriate codec found". Otherwise, there still may be a trouble
with paths.
